Isi artikelThis study aimed to (1) describe English language teachers’ competences based on the certification status, school status, educational background, teaching experiences and gender; and (2) describe English language teachers’ pedagogical competences in identifying learning process elements and in implementing those elements in scientific stages of learning. The research methods were classified into two, i.e., survey in the explorative stage; focused group discussion and classroom observation in the developmental stage. The results were descriptively and qualitatively analysed to describe teachers’ competences and to develop learning model in the classroom in accordance with scientific stages of learning. The data showed that English language teachers in Bengkalis Regency had a variety of competences. Based on the certification status, school status, educational background, teaching experiences, and gender, they had various chances to develop themselves in terms of pedagogical competences in the key areas of the classroom language, learning media usage, multiple intelligences, teacher’s roles, classroom management, teaching techniques and assessment which were blended in scientific stages of learning.
