Bugis language is one of vernacular languages used in most of districts in South Sulawesi and many regions in some provinces in Indonesia. Buginese is a language in Austronesian great family. This study was conducted to investigate mutual intelligibility of Buginese dialect. There were forty five subjects participated in this study. Five students were taken from each of district or municipality from eleven districts. Those subjects were from Parepare municipality, Bulukumba, Sinjai, Bone, Soppeng, Sidrap, Pinrang, Barru, and Pangkep district in which Bugis people live. Those subjects were students of English Education Program, Graduate Program State University of Makassar. The data of the study were taken using Indonesian vocabulary list which consisted of four word class (Noun, Verb, Adjective, and Adverb) and Indonesian sentences in which the subjects were asked to translate those Indonesian sentences and vocabularies into Bugis.
