Isi artikel
The objective of this paper is to provide research framework in order to determine carbon footprint of steel bars with 12 mm. diameter grade SD40, under PAS 2050:2008 specification by Business-to-Business (B2B) analysis. In addition, the hot spot in the process will be identified and the remedy action to reduce carbon footprint will be generated by the mathematical model. The proposed model is an optimization technique which considers various constraints to minimize cost in the objective function. The evaluation of carbon footprint of the steel bar starts from the acquisition of raw materials, production process, through finished products. It is found that the steel bar emits 10.37 kg carbon dioxide equivalent per functional unit of 10 meters in length and 8.8 kg in weight. The process of raw material acquisition, the production process and transportation emitted CO2 at 5.28, 5.01 and 0.08 kgCO2 respectively. The hot spot in the process occurs at the electric arc furnace which is accounted for 57.49% of total carbon dioxide emitted. In this research, the mathematical model used to select optimal methods to reduce the carbon emission was proposed.
