In Ibiden Philippines, Inc. (IPI), Statistical Process Control (SPC) staffs and engineers allot 23.08% of their time in doing limits computation. This task is seemingly becoming the major activity of SPC Team. SPC's major objective is to quickly detect the occurrence of assignable causes or process shifts so that investigation of the process and corrective action may be undertaken before many nonconforming units are manufactured. There are seven (7) control limits database controlled and maintained by SPC Team using macro control charts for Output Parameters and a total of 5618 parameters is then monitored. The frequency of limits computation for Output Parameters following the SPC Procedure is monthly. Manual method of computation per parameter is exercised by the team using Jump Analysis. However, manual computation does not guarantee accurate judgment of computed limits per parameter. Human imperfection is indeed undeniable. Thus, automation of SPC control limits calculation is introduced in this paper. SPC AutoCal is a PC-based Excel VB macro program that automatically calculates control limits of each output parameter monitored and controlled in entire IPI premises.
