Today the importance of adequate inventory control has become more evident for many companies, many organizations are tried to reduce their costs and increase their services or production level. This project paper was conducted at Expert Group of Asia Plastic Corporation or EGA Corporation, which is a manufacturer of high-Grade assorted engineering plastics product for pharmaceuticals, electronics, industrial spare parts, semiconductor parts, medical equipment parts, laboratory machines, medical parts and others that provides alternative solution of foreign and local manufacturers in their production process. Because the inventory of materials is done manually; there is no system to manage the inventories of raw materials. There are inefficiencies in the current Inventory Section practices that have resulted to; excesses in raw materials consumption, almost 10% excess in regular items and 15% excess in special item within the year; erroneous inventory records; wrong transcription, or unavailability of record of production; non-availability of needed materials at time of need because of inaccurate inventories; time consuming to do the monthly actual inventory of all items; and security is also being risked, loss items within a year are reported since materials are not properly monitored. Therefore, the purpose of this project paper was to improve the control of raw materials inventories and the reliability of information about the components of each item. In order to achieve the purpose, interviews and observations were performed, theories in inventory control, different studies in automated identification system were reviewed and the inventory process in the company was studied. Afterwards solutions for improvements were proposed. To solve the management problem, an automated identification system was proposed. Automated system and information technology for EGA Corporation can provide; business information systems with the identity of each raw material in an automated and timely manner; the real time availability of item identity allows other information to be drawn on in order to assess both the current status of the product and future actions required in the company; a major opportunity to overhaul and improve inventory control of EGA Corporation; and in the longer term, it is possible that Auto ID systems may enable a complete re-engineering of inventory management by removing a number of constraints that limit today’s inventory structures. After a thorough analysis of data, this study suggests that for future innovation or upgrades of the process, EGA Corporation can implement the Automated Identification System using bar coding technology instead of RFID technology. The proposed Automated System is definitely better than the current manual procedures. From eighteen steps in the current procedures, if there will be automated system there will be six steps that can be eliminated in the processes these are usually the routinely recording and checking of items from receiving, inspection and realizing to production. In Economic Feasibility, Barcode Systems have demonstrated cost effectiveness in EGA Corporation both in estimated onetime cost and recurring cost; barcode technology is much lower than RFID technology because of the existence of interfacing hardware and software. Although the anticipated benefits in savings of both barcode and RFID technology are the same, the lower cost of barcode technology would have significantly affect the return on investment in EGA Corporation. Technology assessment of Bar Code and RFID Technology in its Technical and Operational Feasibility proved that RFID technology is still in its infancy to develop in EGA Corporation as to the present process flow of items. Barcode technology’s ease of use can be attributed as a significant factor of its success to EGA Corporation and the applications to solve the present problems; this could be the first step in a technology’s development in EGA Corporation. Auto-ID technology can be viewed as a tool to facilitate daily inventory operations for EGA Corporation in their items tracking and inventory records. It would be very helpful to build an automated identification system using bar code technology at EGA Corporation that will automate the inventory control procedures to minimize the lengthy recording, inspection, and tracking of each item. Definitely, automated system using barcode technology will eliminate the problems and improved the current inventory tracking operations.
