Isi artikelThis study aims to consider the application of assembly line balancing heuristics in designing product layout for needle holder assembly in precision machining department to provide leverage for high performance of labor and equipment necessary for completion of a process. Secondary data was obtained from a database of routing list-operation in a precision manufacturing. The line balancing method; Incremental Utilization Heuristics (IUH) was used to design the layout and in the determination of performance measure like efficiency, delays and number of workstations. This study is subject for verification test, which indicated 89% efficiency. Needle Holder assembly with longer task times in workstation must be divided into smaller workstation base on the multiples of the cycle time. This implies an increase number of workstation or number of workers essential for speedy assembly operations in a precision manufacturing.
