Isi artikel
Facility Layout Problem (FLP) is one of significant decision in manufacturing and service systems. It is vital to do appropriate layout of machines to achieve effective utilization. To reduce product cost and improve the effectiveness of the manufacturing process, it is essential to have an optimal arrangement of facilities. This paper proposes a genetic algorithm for solving equal area facility layout problem to minimize material handling costs. In the literature, many optimizations and heuristic algorithm have been presented and published to solve facility layout problem. The effectiveness of the proposed method is evaluated and compared with other approaches. The main advantage of the proposed method with respect to other approaches is that the coding of GA is simple and it generates most of the optimal value compare to other approaches.
