Isi artikelBusiness Incubation has been acknowledged by practitioners as a necessary tool for assisting the fledgling businesses. Several countries of the world have adopted the scheme ever since it was conceived in the United States of America (USA) in 1959 with various levels of success. Because the programme is a creation of the developed countries, most developing nations had found it difficult to adapt to its own cultural setting and as a result the success level has been very low. This paper aims to demonstrate the salient role of government policy on the incubation dimensions as well as success. The paper builds on an exploratory research to test for generated conceptual framework and to validate such framework. We targeted population from Nigerian incubation scheme using a questionnaire method of data gathering. This is because Nigeria is a developing country and its incubation programme can be applied to other developing nations in the same stage of incubation development. Two groups of hypotheses were tested in relation with the proposed research model. These are Direct paths hypotheses and Moderating hypotheses. The Partial Least Squares (PLS) interaction effect analysis was used to analyze the research question. The finding revealed that all exogenous variables together explained 52.4% of the variance in success whereas, when moderation effect is present, the variable increased to 62.3%. The main research limitation of this study was to find the dimensions of the Main factors from the literature. This is because past studies have been conducted in the developed countries (USA and Europe) whereas the conceptualization of the main factors dimensions is different in developing countries. The result of this study recommends that for the business incubation scheme to be successful and effective, government needs to implement efficient policies because results showed that these policies are almost influencing all the relationships.
