Isi artikelRecently, there are a lot of challenging issues in manufacturing industries such as agile response to various requirements of customers, advance action on environmental regulations and energy consumption, high value-added workspaces, collaboration with companies and servitization of manufacturing, etc. As one of solutions to these issues, manufacturing companies which consider applying ICT (Information & Communication Technology) or ubiquitous computing technology to their manufacturing systems for innovation of work environment, manufacturing systems and value chain are getting more and more. Since most of the ICT applications deal with technology-oriented implementation extending factory automation, they provide only partial solutions to specified problems without significant industrial impact. ICT applications should be understood not as a solution for simple problems but as a tool for realization of factories of the future. In these perspectives, there have been R&D activities related with Smart Factory (or Ubiquitous Factory) which aims at ICT-based future manufacturing systems for sustainability including environment and society as well as traditional manufacturing issues, e.g. productivity and quality. Because these ICT applications need comprehensive understanding for aiming value of Smart Factory, complexity of manufacturing systems and variety of industrial domains, in order to carry out their effective implementation, a systematic approach is required. In this study, we focus on how to effectively and systematically implement industrial applications of ICT-based Smart Factory. 1) We derive enabling technologies for implementation of Smart Factory and 2) develop an implantation process based on systems engineering methodology. 3) To illustrate and validate the process, we carry out a case study on an industrial application for a manufacturing company. And the case study helps to embody industrial impact of Smart Factory to SMEs (Small & Medium-sized Enterprises).
