Isi artikelThe amount of sugar produced is depended on two important factors of harvested sugarcane, which are the sugarcane yield and its sweetness quality. The sugarcane with high weight and high cumulative sugar content or sweetness quality, which is measured in commercial cane sugar (C.C.S) unit, is the most desirable for sugar production. However, the growth levels of the sugarcane yield and C.C.S are not exactly following the same pattern. Normally, sugarcane yield will increase until reach its heaviest weight during the cane age of 10 to 12 months depended on cultivar, and decreasing after that. The C.C.S will continually accumulate to its peak level after 14 to 16 months. Traditionally, Thai farmers prefer to harvest their sugarcane based on sugarcane weight more than waiting for higher C.C.S. In order to persuade farmers to harvest by considering the C.C.S along with sugarcane yield, the pricing strategy is presently employed. The mill offers high purchasing price for sugarcane with high C.C.S. In this paper, the method based on two mathematical models is developed to determine the effective sugarcane price that could encourage farmers to harvest at high C.C.S level. The proposed method is also examined with the data collected from a case study mill in Thailand. The result indicated that, for every unit of C.C.S increases, the price should increase 10% of standard price.
