Each company should have proper quality control system to improve the quality of their products. Most of them have used automation system to accomplish that goal. However, the worker’s capability still plays an important role. One of the skills needed in carrying out quality control is visual attention, which is used to detect errors or abnormal conditions. Perfectionism is a factor that may affect the workers performance since a perfectionist has a tendency to achieve perfection and determine high standards for him/herself. The purpose of this study is to observe influence of perfectionism on work performance. A total of 40 male and female students with the mean age of 21 years old, half of whom are perfectionists and half of whom are non-perfectionists, participated in a change blindness experiment. The participants should detect five differences in the set of 40 trials. Accuracy and reaction time are measured as performance criteria. Perfectionism is assessed by using Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale. The result proved that perfectionism has no significant correlation with work performance (i.e., accuracy and work performance). However, concern over mistakes, an aspect of perfectionism, has significant negative correlation with reaction time. It means that high concern over mistakes correlate with speed reaction time. After the respondents are grouped based on the perfectionism level, it can be concluded that perfectionism has a significant infuence on accuracy. Another result of this study is that achievement orientation is a moderator variable between perfectionism and level of accuracy. These results can be used as a basis to conduct improvement in the work system of quality control, especially in human resource planning.
