Isi artikel
In view of the potential relevance of Classical Studies for contemporary students, and as a result of the positive efforts of various community and professional individuals, the School District of Philadelphia has inaugurated new programs in FLES Latin for 4th, 5th, and, 6th grade pupils, in secondary school Latin, in Classical Greek for secondary schools, and in interdisciplinary Classical Humanities courses. These innovative classical language courses are described. The approach is multisensory and visual/audio/lingual. The emphasis is on: expanding the verbal functioning of the children in English (especially through vocabulary building based on Greek or Latin roots); on broadening their cultural horizons (especially through contrastive study of the past); and on stimulating interest in the humanities (through freshly conceived goals and instructional approaches).
