This report describes the rationale, approach, and design of a four-week workshop conducted at Western Washington State College in July-August 1976. The fifty-six participants, teachers of French, German, and Spanish from Idaho, Oregon, and Washington, were selected with the help of the state foreign language associations of these three states. Daily activities included a language class, a course in cross-cultural communication and instruction in Inon-traditional' methods of language teaching (including adaptations of Counseling Learning and t h e Silent Way). Participants bad access to numerous campus resources which are described in the report. In an attempt to multiply t h e benefits derived from this workshop, twenty-five school administrators were invited to participate with the language teachers in a two-day mini-workshop as part of t h e project.
