Isi artikel
The medical education systems of different countries and regions share common concerns about how to select the best and bright- est candidates. Even within a given socio-political context there is often a great deal of debate about what constitutes the ideal doctor. A core question, however, con- cerns whether there is such a sin- gle ideal. The failure to reflect on that question prevents any consid- eration of the effects of policy on the student selection process and of how the decisions of stakehold- ers (and their exertion of their legitimate power) affect who should be trained or allowed to practise. Three studies on policy and equality, published in this issue of Medical Education , offer a critical examination of these and related issues.
