The New York State Association of Foreign Language Teachers has created a system of awards in the belief that favorable publicity and the establishment of an affirmative image are benefits shared by awardee and awarder alike. One program acknowledges contributions to language learning made by both language and non-language professionals on the state and national levels. Another awards program focuses on excellence in and contributions to language study on the local and regional levels. The third phase grants scholarships to outstanding high school language students and recognizes teacher innovations and initiative via mini-grants.
