This article outlines the methods used to build a strong foreign language program in the Crook County (OR) Schools. The main problems faced were the town's generally anti-intellectual milieu, student apathy and unpreparedness, and a less-than-adequate budget. Using a simple and inexpensive strategy for recruitment and publicity, the author was able to strengthen and improve the foreign language program in the school district both quantitatively and qualitatively.
