Isi artikelThe cognitive approach is among the most recent developments in the long line of methodological upheavals that foreign language teaching has witnessed in the twentieth century. Using error analysis, a technique designed to further our understanding of how students perceive and use the target language, many linguists and psychologists have observed that students themselves contribute a great deal to the language learning process. They create their own rules and rearrange material presented to them according to the cognitive structures and linguistic insight they already possess. This article discusses the cognitive method and provides practical guidelines for classroom application of error analysis
