The following article describes the development of a computer program which teaches high frequency vocabulary, basic syntax, and reading skills entirely through the inferring of meaning from contextual indicators (inferencing). This approach is made accessible to students wholly unfamiliar with the target language by initial reliance on a largely native language context.
