This paper is a call to second language ieachers in the United States to help promote a multilingual, multicultural American society by actively supporting and participating in effective bilingual education. The author describes a successful reciprocal bilingual exchange program between Anglophone fourth year students of Spanish in a high school in New York and younger, native speakers of Spanish in a nearby bilingual elementary school. The weekly interactions serve as a sociocultural and linguistic bridge between two groups of Spanish speakers who would otherwise never know each other.
