A survey of 358 university students enrolled in first- and second-semester French and Spanish courses indicates that students are overwhelmingly positive concerning the importance of knowledge of a foreign language. Many predict using the target language during travel, at work, and in their personal lives, and reafirm the belief that language courses are an important part of their college education. This article presents the results of this survey, along with its pedagogical implications
