Isi artikel
This paper illustrates that Indo-Aryan and Dravidian languages show interesting parallelisms in the use of question words for a number of non-interrogative functions which can be characterized as: (i) Non-comparability; (ii) Pervasiveness; (iii) Inclusion; (iv) Exclusion; (v) Focus; and (vi) Persuasion. Since such usages seem to be natural in Kharia, an Austro-Asiatic language, it is suggested that the feature under consideration may be more widespread than explored in this paper and needs, therefore, further investigation.
