Isi artikelThis paper gives an overview of the differences in form and usage between the Dutch and English passives. It argues that the differences in form lead to a difference in meaning, and that this difference in meaning explains the differences in usage: The Dutch passive signals that the causer's point-of-view should not be taken, whereas the English passive signals that the patient's point-of-view should be taken.
