In this paper, I undertake a revision of the Russian modality of possibility from the point of view of the functional and interlinguistic aspects of this category. I will ague that the most comprehensive way to represent its complex nature and its place in the language structure is a functional–pragmatic model, which would reveal the complex nature and the poly-functional character of this diverse category.
