Isi artikel
This paper describes how eSilicon, a leading independent provider of semiconductor design and manufacturing services, is transforming itself through automation and quality system improvement. Growing revenue can be strongly influenced by a fast, flexible supply of the right products at the right time to match customer needs. In this constantly changing and challenging environment, we need to continuously increase productivity and build flexibility into our business processes. This can only be achieved with a strong Quality Management System (QMS). Historically, the Quality Organization has played more of a caretaker role including administration of documents, approval status monitoring and reporting to process owner, filling out forms and templates, responding and writing corrective action reports etc. The result was lack of ownership and a high dependency on the Quality Organization to manage issues and administer a wide range of processes. Due to the extensive use of spreadsheets, emails and lack of system integration, simple tasks required tremendous effort to accomplish. Data extraction is labor intensive and continual improvements become academic. Issues continue to climb while employees’ morale dips. Transformation at this point requires a “leap of faith”. The pursuit of excellence requires a change in quality mindset. Time to Market (TTM) is crucial. The transformation process started with the revamp of the Quality Organization. Fundamentals of the QMS were strengthened, roles and responsibilities clearly defined and best practices deployed. Mapping of current business critical processes paved the way for the eventual purchase of a Product Lifecycle Management tool. Information technology and automation made manufacturing operations more cost effective and productive. Our efforts generated tangible results, enhanced relationship with customers, and demonstrated eSilicon’s quest to be a top tier supplier of our customers in our chosen markets
