Isi artikelSince 2013, SCG Logistics (SCG-L), a third party logistics (3PL) company, has aimed to improve logistics service quality for soybean meal product regarding the high number of product loss during the multimodal transportation processes. The effect of the loss impacted the customer’s production plan that generated incremental cost of production and lost sales opportunity. Moreover, there was an environmental problem to the nearby community because its tiny size was easily blown away by the wind. Therefore, SCG-L needs to verify the current processes that are causing the loss of the product and improve them throughout the supply chain. The multimodal transportation process starts from the customer’s river ports. Bulk cargos of the soybean meal are carried by trucks, weighted at the port and loaded onto a ship. This process is repeated, about 100 times, until the ship capacity is full. Then they are shipped to a destination port. The product is transferred from the ship onto trucks again, weighted and finally delivered to the customer’s plants. In this article, Measurement System Analysis (MSA) was applied to verify the measurement errors that are repetitive, linearity and bias of 3 different weight scales. Besides, to verify the loss that blew away, Sieve Analysis was implemented to identify particle size of product which was missing. To reduce this loss, the transferring equipment has been developed. The results of the improvement are a decrease in loss by 50%; within the customer’s specification, a logistics service quality improvement and friendly to community and environment
