Isi artikelJohn Akers, CEO of IBM Corporation had said, “Quality is everyone’s job. Quality is essential merely to stay in the race.” Quality drives competitiveness and ultimately to profits, reputation, workmen’s pride and motivation. Adopting high level technology and deploying trained workforce are necessary steps to enhance productivity and research shows that quality improves with engaging workers through quality improvements. Advent of quality circles in Japan is one of the live examples of worker’s engagement for improving quality. In USA and western countries Quality education and training is imparted through various certification courses like CQE (Certified quality engineer) which the executive/ workman acquire after his formal education and training. There is a paradigm shift in this thinking. In India, Quality council of India has taken steps, firstly by enhancing the quality of governance at vocational training institutes through accreditation process and secondly introducing modules on Quality Management system and Quality tools such as 5S, visual management, Waste reduction, Process control, Basic Quality tools, Kaizen etc in the curriculum of vocational training. Government of India has made it mandatory for every new Industrial training institute ( ITI ) to acquire NABET accreditation for getting National Council of vocational council ( NCVT )’s affiliation and also included these QMS & Quality Tools in the curriculum of worker’s vocational training being imparted through ten thousands Industrial Training Institutes across the country. This will enable emerging workforce to be well equipped with technical and quality background. From the day one in their employment, this workman will focus on productivity along with quality of his products or services. Quality council of India has also conducted a study to capture the needs of industry and gap in the curriculum of polytechnics ( 3 years diploma course after 10th standards). As a result of this study Government of India has agreed to train the 2500 trainers of polytechnics in these quality techniques. This movement to educate and train each workman and supervisor in quality will develop an ownership and significantly engage workman in enhancing quality of products and services and so imbibing quality culture at grass root level in each and every organization in India
