Isi artikel
This paper examined the recent uprisings in North African and Persian Gulf countries, focusing on the remote and immediate causes of the violent revolutions. This paper established similarities between the situations and developments in Nigeria within the same period (2010-date) and the countries in which the revolutions occurred. These similarities significantly manifested in seemingly ignominy to the principles of democracy, socio-economic deprivation and poor human rights record. Against the preparing backdrop, the paper poses the question: can the revolution spread to Nigeria? The paper adopted comparative and analytic approaches even as it is significantly beneficial to Nigerian leaders, the general public and other African leaders particularly as it reviled remote and immediate causes of revolution. In the end, the paper recommended the need for respect to the democratic principles, careful study of previous protests with a view to establishing mechanisms that would promptly mitigate civil unrest and immediate response to various contentious national questions.
