Isi artikel
The aim of this paper is the differentiation of normal developmental anxiety in adolescence from pathological anxiety, with existential and developmental criteria, to aid therapists and educators in determining the need for treatment. Two stories of adolescents in treatment for severe anxiety are followed by a discussion of the causes for normal anxiety in adolescence and a description of pathological anxiety with its loss of hope for a personal future. The paper ends with a brief description of research by the author and two colleagues which has revealed an adolescent population with unique vulnerability for increased anxiety as they progress through adolescence.
