Isi artikelThe author conducted an oral history project gathering childhood memories of post-war Merseyside in the United Kingdom. Interviews were conducted with ten participants and the interview transcripts were analysed to identify the social conditions which impacted on childhood experiences. This paper focuses on the reminiscence process itself. The author developed a Memory Tree Model (MTM) to access childhood memories and each participant was interviewed twice, allowing ample scope to reflect on this approach. The author contends that a heuristic approach to memory sharing is an effective tool for capturing, analysing and preserving reminiscences, childhood experiences and living memories. When combined with public dissemination, in this case an exhibition at the Museum of Liverpool, oral history can be positive for participants and enrich the wider community.
