Modern digital and communication technology has freed the act of comunication from the limitations of space and time. The rise of Internet and multimedia technology has facilitated the creation of an online learning environment that is vigorously developing and diversifying. People can use the Internet to attend classes and receive training, as well as acquire new information anytime, anywhere, and however they like (dependent on individual needs). However, there is currently little research in Taiwan that focuses on using a computer-assisted system for Japanese grammar instruction to structure questions for web-based tests (WBT). This research focuses on the auxiliary verb and test questions found in Levels 1 and 2 (N1 and N2) of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test, utilizing joint maximum likelihood estimation (JMLE) to analyze question difficulty and examine ability. The analysis of these question types led to the followng three conclusions: (1) In Level 2, a bimodal distribution was found for the particle questions, and a skewed distribution found for questions on negated auxiliary verbs. In Level 1, normal distributions were found for both particle and negated auxiliary verb question types. (2) The formula used in this research estimated that question that difficulty would be ranked such that Level 1 particles) Level 2 negated auxiliary verbs) Level 1 negated auxiliary verbs ) Level 2 particles. (3) Examines' scaled scores were used assess test question difficulty, which was found in descending order to be: Level 2 particles) Level 1 particles) Level 2 negated auxiliary verbs ) Level 1 negated verbs.
