Isi artikel
This article examine the most innovative charateristics, of Italian neorealist literature and cinema, and highlights particularly the important contribution the movement made in changing the perception of relationship between language and national identity. In this field, Neorealism began gradually to overturn the view which had prevailed since the unification of the country and which nobody had managed seriously to bring into question for almost a century. Being Italian no longer meant accepting passively a unitary lingusitic model, which most citizens considered alien to their culture, but joining a community in which local peculiarities, far from weakening the idiom, reinforced it, since they vivified and enriched it.
