Isi artikel
For language students and especially EFL students who may have limited or no contact with native speakers, textbook is the main source and references due to its pervasive use inside and out side classroom as a guide to proper language use. Most of the language that students will acquire during their schooling in English will be from either their teacher and or their textbook. If textbooks present language that is not suited for certain situation and the context of culture determine correct language for the certain situation, the language learned may well be unsuitable and cause of cross-cultural pragmatic failure. For this reason, this article concerns on the theoretical aspect of gender sensitivity, gender bias, portrayal on ethnic diversity and social appropriateness in choosing a textbook based on semantic, sociolinguistics, and pragmatics point of view as well.
