Translation involves more than one language, the Source Language (SL) and the Target language (TL). The teaching of translation demonstrates that more than one language are catered for. Like the teaching of other applied subjects, it needs careful consideration about the balance between the theory and the practice . Too much theory will not give time for the learners to practice, while insufficient knowledge of translation theory will make the students find difficulties in producing acceptable target language because of the structural and cultural differences between the Source language (SL) and the Target language (TL). Frequent practice gives significant contribution to the success of learning. Included in the practice is the analysis and the discussion of the published translated text by asking the students to compare the translated text in TL ( in Indonesian) with its original, i.e. the SL ( in English ). This activity gives the idea to the students about the real practice of translation as well as the application of the theories they have learned. These are the activities in the translation class which the writer wants to share. The students are the S1 students of the English Department The lesson covers translation theory, the practice in recognizing the SL text, analyzing the SL text, finding the equivalence of the SL words or expression in the TL , transferring the SL message into TL and restructuring or adjustment. The students should keep in mind that the first attempt to produce SL message in the TL will not always result in natural and acceptable TL. Several adjustments are necessary to produce the desired.
