In current years, literature has attracted more interests among EFL teachers, as some characteristics of literature prove to benefit the teaching of the language. One of the activities that can be mined from literature is composing, which is usually carried out in literary interpretation in the form of essay writing. In this paper, I propose composing a parody as an alternative way of literary interpretation. In this strategy, parodies in the form of “Fractured Fairy Tales and Ruptured Rhymes” are suggested as the model for composing a parody for an advanced English class in Indonesia. These kinds of literary work have proved to be an effective means of showing the students that writing can be fun. The parodies would be introduced before guiding the students to write through the process of playing and thinking (interpreting). The strategy involve reading stage, criticizing stage, and writing statge. It is expected that, by using the works and strategy, students have critical thinking on literary works and, at the same time, see how their language competence works. In this paper, some samples of students’ works related to this activity are given.
