Isi artikelIn this paper, we will first discuss the bilingual education program as a way to fulfill the need of English literacy. This program is very essential to develop the Indonesian human resource to prepare for this global era. We will then highlight the implementation of the bilingual education program at SMPN 1, a program proposed by the Ministers of Education of Southeast Asia in 37th Conference in Chiang Mai in 2002 as an initiative for Quality and Equity in education. As this is a new program of a coalition of schools, our study will focus on identifying problems faced by the teachers of content areas (Physics, Biology, and Math) in teaching the subjects in English. In addition, we will review the teachers’ initiative solutions to overcome the problems. We will end up our study with some suggestions for the teachers as well as the headmasters so that the implementation of bilingual education program will yield a better outcome.
