Isi artikelThis article discusses a theoretical framework for conceptualizing different kinds of language rights and for construing the nature of the tension between them. It examines the difference between individual language rights and communal language rights, suggesting that the latter can have sound moral foundations. The author goes on to argue that there are grounds for far-reaching claims to the protection of language, and that these have a legitimate place in rights-discourse. Finally, the concluding remarks address the delicate issue of conflicts between language rights.
