Isi artikelThe term ‘readability’ is closely related to the ability of readers to read, understand, and comprehend a text. A text which has a high readability level will be easily understood by the readers. The previous studies have shown that the grammatical structures and vocabularies are some influential aspects of readability. However, those studies do not emphasize the cognitive aspects from readers’ perspective. In this article, the writer analyzes the level of readability of 22 academic articles in a proceeding entitled “Kongres Internasional Masyarakat Linguistik Indonesia 2011”. The articles are tested to 15 students who have achieved TOEFL ITP score of at least 510 (the requirement for thesis defence in University X). This research is descriptively aimed to measure the readability level and describe the cognitive aspects of readability which influence the students’ comprehension.
