Isi artikel
In this chapter, we focus on a particular example of an authentic practice that has been a primary focus of the research of both authors, the analysis of archival data in science to reach and justify conclusions in an investigation. We organize this discussion around three components of this authentic practice that we have focused on in our research: analysis and interpretation of data, construction and justi?cation of a conclusion for an audience, and re?ection. All three are heavily intertwined. The ?rst two are distinguished by their relative emphasis on sense-making and communication. The third, re?ection, is a metacognitive practice that supports the other two.
