Isi artikelIn the translation of a text from the source language (SL) to the target language (TL), lexical choice plays an important role. A good translation requires equivalence between the SL text and TL text in order to prevent confusion for the readers. The objective of this study is to analyze the lexical features in the translation of the novel of Harry Potter and the Philosopher‘s Stone from English into Indonesian. This research was conducted in contrastive analysis by comparing both English and Indonesian version of the novel, specifically chapter 1. The results of this research show that there are cultural and L1 interference, unusual diction of Indonesian terms; and unnecessary addition and word omission in the translated text. We conclude that coherence is one main key that needs to be considered by a translator in creating a comprehensible message in the TL text.
