Isi artikelInvestigating deeper on the ways the novice students make effort to translate texts seems to have positive implications in fostering their competence in translating texts. Research need to be done to find out their best strategies in translating texts. This study investigated the students‘ different techniques and problems in translating a popular text. Three students were given the same materials from the English source text to be translated into Indonesian. The students‘ efforts in translating the texts were recorded using the think aloud protocol method. Data was collected from the results of the students‘ work and was analyzed. The result showed that different kinds of students used different kinds of techniques during their translation process . This study concluded that skimming the whole paragraphs, creative thinking, the use of online resources or dictionaries, and rechecking the translation products improved the students‘ capability in developing their translation skills.
