Isi artikelNarrative paradigm as a general theory for the analysis of five menu titles in Gado - Gado Java restaurant brings me to look on the way the menus are narrated. The fact that the food names here cannot be translated in a formal way, regarding the tradition and culture they bring (such as Gado – Gado, Rujak, Ketoprak, and Soto Ambengan), makes any description necessary for readers to understand the foods. If seen from the principles of Translation Universals (TU), the English descriptions in the menu have the characteristics of such universality. For that reason, we are going to see the three features of TU that are present in the menu. The analysis began by firstly categorizing the five menu titles into the three features that appear. Then, the phenomenon happens in each menu is explained based on the supporting information from several sources and the theories of TU itself. The results of the analysis showed that in menu translation of Gado-Gado Java restaurant, the three features of TU are unintentionally or intentionally done in order to make the translation reads more clearly.
