Isi artikelThe most important experience in this fellowship is that it has helped me look back on my immersion in the ways of my ancestors, especially now that I am on the verge of a breakthrough as a modern filmmaker. It took me years before I started filming the rituals of my own tribe. These four months might not seem enough yet this brief time has made me look deep into my essence and purpose as a culture-bearing artist. Mabui is the essence of self, the identity of a people. Thanks to my inspiration from Takamine Go’s exploration of the Okinawan psyche, I now move on and create my dream script on my Palawan identity. I consider this Asian Public Intellectual fellowship to be a ritual—a ritual of looking deep inside myself as I experience the Okinawan soul.
