Any attempt to analyse the concept of democracy will have to face formidable problems, particularly if it is conducted with an eye to its relationships to education. The problems are essential emerged out from what kind of democracy are in question. In fact, democracy can be understood in two rival value constellation namely, market and moral democracy. Only the latter entails a commitments to the educational aim of the critical citizen. The former permits the emancipation of education into training and socialization to work. it is the purpose of this article to defend the position that moral democracy provides for reflection upon different forms of life and the critical assessment of institutions and values in society for the sake of human dignity. It is also suggested that the moral conception of democracy is of prime importance for the justification and continuation of democracy.
