Isi artikel
This study investigates the translation of the poem ‘Surat Kuta’ into ‘Kuta Beach Letter’ which focuses on the strategies of translation used by the translator and how images in the source language (SL) poem are transferred to the target language (TL) poem. When a poem is translated, it is an obligation of the translators to preserve the meaning of the poem in which imagery is mostly utilized. This is an element of a poem which constitutes the imagination of sense experience. The findings show that the investigation of poetry translation focusing on imagery represents the issues of transferring images and meaning. In poetry translation, syntactical units found in each line of the poem are translated through strategies of translation while both images and meaning are carefully transferred by the translator to meet the artistic element of a poem in which messages are also fully preserved.
