Investment bankers are a bright and resourceful lot. Some of the best minds of this generation are in search of the next big innovation in credit markets or risk management that will bring back the heady days before the financial crisis. But the industry's voyage back to profitability will probably be slow, and not all banks will make it. New and interesting markets or products are still being discovered. Among the biggest at the moment is collateral management: helping financial institutions and companies manage the collateral that they are owed or that regulators want them to post with central counterparties on their derivative transactions.
