As members of a cultural community, people tend not only to behave in the way that has been traditionally inherited from their ancestors but also to cling to the well, established traditions believing that deviations are violations of norms. Culture many people say is immortal and it is only natural, therefore that it be maintained. This paper is to look into this view but from the opposite angle. While there is no doubt that many of our values have contributed a great deal of cultural ingredients to our nationhood, there are some which have turned into contraints in the development of our nation. Cultural values are not eternal, they are subject to change just as any other living organism. As owners of these values we should not be afraid of the change. On the contrary, we have the responsibility and obligation to make it happen.
