Since its beginning, the development of bahasa indonesia is inseparable from the nationalistic movement and the birth of the Indonesian republic, and with the growth of the Indonesian press as well. It is interesting to note that the first congress of bahasa indonesia (1938) was initiated not by linguistics, language teachers or writers, but by two young journalists, Soemanang and Soedardjo Tjokrosisworo. For the last fifty years the influence of the media (newspapers, magazines, television and radio) on the use and form of the Indonesian language never diminished, so that the media is not only the mirror of the speakers of the language, but also inversely the speakers utilize the media as a model for language use, including all its errors. Due to the undeveloped state of the book publishing in indonesia, the influence of books on the use of the language is quite magnificant.
