Abstract
Legal protection for consumers of bank financial services by the Financial Services Authority in Indonesia still needs to be strengthened, as it remains relatively weak. This study aims to explain the regulatory concepts of financial services authorities in France, Australia, and Singapore, particularly in protecting consumers of banking financial services. It also examines the ideal concept of regulation for the Financial Services Authority (OJK) in Indonesia by reflecting on the practices in those countries. The data collection method used in this study is a literature review, and the data are analyzed qualitatively. The results indicate that consumer protection implemented by the Financial Services Authority in Indonesia has not yet optimally protected consumers of banking financial services. In addition, there are still weaknesses in OJK as a super-regulatory body, including its overly broad scope of work (regulation and supervision) and the large number of industries it must oversee. As a result, the effectiveness of OJK’s performance may be questioned if it is not supported by reliable systems and adequate human resources. Reflecting on France and Australia, the ideal concept shows that financial services authorities should focus primarily on banking and insurance sectors. Meanwhile, in Singapore, the authority covers almost all types of financial services, including banking, insurance, capital markets, and others.
