Isi artikel
This handbook provides a broad sweep of what has been learned over the past century about intergroup prejudice, stereotyping, and discrimination. In looking ahead, this chapter discusses a series of pressing concerns for future work. First, issues such as causation and the time dimension, as well as the possible universalism of intergroup phenomena in a wider, multi-level context - both down to the biological level and up to the social structural level. Third, future work must integrate the many theories and findings detailed in this volume. Three examples are discussed: combining (a) cognitive with affective factors, (b) the perspectives of both disadvantaged and advantaged groups, and (c) prejudice reduction approaches with collective action concerns. Finally, the chapter reflects on policy implications. Hopefully, the future will witness more longitudinal, multi-level, interdisciplinary, and integrative research that directly addresses these concerns.
