Abstract
Executive function (EF) is vital for goal achievement and daily functioning. However, in Indonesia, assessment is hindered by limited culturally adapted tools, high test costs, and poor service access. Despite EF's association with social, mental, professional, and academic outcomes, there are still few short and reliable self-report instruments available for adults. This is a critical need given the country's rising rates of depression, Alzheimer's, and cognitive decline.
This study aims to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Indonesian self-report version of the Adult Executive Functioning Inventory (ADEXI), focusing on its reliability, validity, and factor analysis. A total of 313 adult participants, selected through convenience sampling across six major regions of Indonesia, completed the ADEXI along with the Indonesian versions of the IEF-SRS (Indonesian Executive Function Self-Report Scale) and the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES) to assess convergent and discriminant validity, respectively.
Item-rest correlations (0.457 to 0.707) indicated good item homogeneity and GDI (0.406 to 0.529) indicated good item discrimination. The data met the assumption of normality (K-S 0.05, p = 0.353), allowing the use of CFA with MLE estimation. CFA results supported a two-factor structure (inhibition and working memory), with factor loadings ranging from 0.515 to 0.788 and fit indices CFI = 0.943; GFI = 0.924; NFI = 0.903; TLI = 0.932; RMSEA = 0.064; SRMR = 0.048; IFI = 0.943. Convergent validity was supported by a significant negative correlation between ADEXI and IEF-SRS (r = -0.581, p < .001). A moderate negative correlation with RSES (r = -0.504, p < 0.001) indicated that discriminant validity could not be fully established, likely due to conceptual overlap between the constructs. Reliability analysis showed excellent internal consistency (? = 0.897). These findings indicate that the Indonesian version of ADEXI is a reliable and valid tool for assessing executive functioning in Indonesian adults, although future research should address sampling limitations and refine discriminant validity procedures.
